This picture taken in the last quarter of the 19th century shows two of the last of the thatched cottages in the village. As they look as if they were originally long houses they were probably on the site when Christopher Saxton drew his map of the village in 1598. The church is between them and the property on the extreme left is the Board Inn where Stephen Lawn was the tenant in 1881

The lady and children were standing in front of Rose Cottage at the end of the 19th century and the dwelling below is Sycamore Cottage. Below that is the village school and Green Lea is at the foot of the picture
Right
A view from the same position taken in 2000. The village school building is a ruin and Garden Cottage is a new dwelling built between the old school and Green Lea.
Right
A view from a similar position taken in 2000. The two thatched cottages were replaced at the end of the 19th century and the property that used to be the Board Inn became a private dwelling in 1927.
